On Tuesday, May 11, 2010 the Singing Churchwomen of Oklahoma will present a concert of celebration in honor of their 20th anniversary at Civic Center Music Hall in Oklahoma City. The concert is free and open to the public. Under the direction of Ken Gabrielse, the SCW is made up of volunteer, professional, church-vocational and lay musicians that number more than 450 women from Southern Baptist Churches in Oklahoma.
In 1991 the SCW sang at Prai-Sing in Nashville and in 1994 the doors opened for a mission/concert trip to Brazil. In 1998 the Singing ChurchWomen, the Singing Churchmen and the Oklahoma Baptist Symphony were invited to provide the music for all of the sessions of the Southern Baptist Convention in Salt Lake City, Utah. No other combined choir or instrumental organization has ever before been asked to participate in the Convention on such a large-scale. This speaks of the quality of musical excellence as well as the heart of Baptist Church Music in the state of Oklahoma. In June of 2004 the SCW participated in a mission/concert trip to Romania & Hungary where over 1,500 people came to know the Lord. The SCW were invited as the featured performing group, to participate in the premiere of the new Baptist Hymnal at Glorieta in July of 2008.
This will be largest choir ever assembled on the stage of the Civic Center Music Hall. Quail Springs has 14 women who are currently members of the choir: Sylvia Boothe, Kathy Gossen, Joanne Lynn, Pat Boone, Betty Brown, Jeanne Deaton, Betty Dixon, Linda Foreman, Jana Gabrielse, Linda Green, Donna Green, Arlene Marion, Linda Schoenhals and Cindy Wallace.
Dear friends,
